I have trouble checking in
when I am en route,
even answering Are you hungry?
when I am walking upstairs
coming home after work.
I presume I may be hungry
but the real question I cannot ask
is what would happen if I stopped
to consider the question.
I'm quite sure I would stay in my work clothes
halfway up the stairs until I was dead.
